Results: Museum of Science: Science-By-Mail
Assets: The Museum of Science, Boston is highly regarded for its content expertise, deep roots in the New England scientific and education communities, and a broad membership and attendance base, along with a strong network of strategic partners.
Initiative: Create the Science-by-Mail program to challenge students with science kits and then connect them with working scientists in an affordable program.
Results: In the first three months, 1,500 students were matched with 150 scientists. Within two years, 25,000 students were submitting their work to a network of 2,500 scientists, generating $320,000 per year in fee revenue plus $250,000 of seed grants from the National Science Foundation and private donors.
